I have heard that I need recommendations from active members of the air force to be competitive I was trying to research if this was true and if so, does anyone have any strategies or recommendations to getting these as its not every day for me at least to meet an active member of the air force. I've so far held a 3.5 GPA and I'm going to be taking the AFOQT this summer along with the TBAS.

I am interested in air mobility or aerial refueling as a pilot (C-17's, C-5's, or KC-46's) and was looking into OTS after college however was fairly discouraged to see how few pilots actually get selected out of OTS and how little of I shot I had of getting a slot doing that. I'm trying to identify if I would even have a shot getting a pilot slot doing AFROTC so late in my university career or what I could do to make myself stand out against other AFROTC cadets that are also going for the same pilot slots, or even if AFROTC is right for me, the detachment here allows you to complete their program three years total, as I still have three years left until I graduate with my masters I'm fine there. Hello, I am a 20 year old instrument rated private pilot with 200 hours and counting currently 3 years into a bachelors of science in Aeronautics and a masters of science in aviation safety with a minor in ATC and unfortunately for me I only really found my passion for the air force until after I was already in college as I was focused on the airlines in high school.
